NGK Returns to Supercars Championship in 2025 with Walkinshaw Andretti United

Automotive aftermarket leaders Niterra Australia, previously known as NGK Spark Plugs, will return to the heat of Supercars Championship competition in 2025, with the brand linking once more with Walkinshaw Andretti United.

The Ford Mustangs of Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood will carry NGK/NTK/KYB branding for the 13-round season, continuing a high-performance tradition that stretches over 80 years, including a remarkable streak of victories with the Walkinshaw-owned Holden Racing Team (HRT).

All told, between 1994 and 2016, NGK and HRT claimed a total of six Bathurst 1000 titles, six Australian Touring Car/Supercars Championship victories, and 117 individual ATCC/Supercars Championship race wins, with drivers including Mark Skaife, Craig Lowndes, Greg Murphy, Jason Bright, Todd Kelly, Garth Tander, Will Davison, Nick Percat and James Courtney.

Outside of the longstanding relationship with Walkinshaw’s motorsport endeavours, NGK has found success with some of the sport’s biggest names.

During the 1970s, the brand became synonymous with flamboyant touring car ace Peter Janson before linking with the iconic Peter Brock in 1988.

Wearing Mobil colours, Brock and NGK combined to win four ATCC races in Ford Sierras and Holden Commodores between 1989 and 1993, prior to the duo transferring to the HRT.

NGK was also a partner of Nissan Motorsport and Kelly Racing between 2013 and 2019, with a highlight being Rick Kelly’s victory at Winton Motor Raceway aboard a Nissan Altima in 2018.

Elsewhere in motorsport circles, the brand has been at the forefront of two-wheeled competition in a range of circuit racing and motocross disciplines.

This season’s Repco Supercars Championship sees NGK return to the sport after a five-year hiatus.

“We’re incredibly excited to join forces with Walkinshaw Andretti United,” said Paris Mouratidis, Executive General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Niterra Australia.

“We share a deep commitment to community engagement and pushing boundaries, and this partnership is an extension of that shared vision.

“We’re thrilled to be back in the racing world and partnering with Walkinshaw Andretti United – it feels like coming home, and we’re looking forward to returning to victory lane.”

For Walkinshaw Andretti United, the partnership with Niterra is a natural fit.

“It is fantastic to be welcoming NGK back into the Walkinshaw Andretti United family and continue to build on our proud history of success,” said Bruce Stewart, Chief Executive Officer at Walkinshaw Andretti United.

“Connecting with an automotive industry leader such as Niterra provides benefits that flow both ways.

“The theatre of competition is always an important testing ground for high-performance products, and working together, we look forward to adding to our major accomplishments registered to date.”
